Will of John (Allisary)

In the name of God, Amen, the third of December one thousand eight hundred and forty-six, I, John McDonald of Alisary, Farmer, being very sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God; therefore calling unto mind the mortality of the body, knowing it is appointed unto all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say: Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God, that gave it, and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resutrrection, I shall receive the same again, by the Almighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate, as it pleased God to bless me with, I give and dispose in the following manner. First I give and bequeath to Matilda, my dearly beloved wife, jointly with my youngest son Augustine, one half of my land, house, buildings, marshes and wood, together with all my part of the stock, farming utensils and household goods, for and during her natural life. I also give to my beloved son John and his heirs forever, the other half of my land, house, buildings, wood and marshes, with all the stock, goods and chattels, now named to him, and at my wife's death, I further order that he shall possess and enjoy the whole of my landed estate, except fifty acres of the east side of my farm, having a front of five chains, and as much of the marsh as will yield six tons annually of hay, which I bequeath to Augustine and his heirs forever. I also make and appoint John McDonald, Esq. of Alisary, Mr. Ronald McDonald St. Peter's Lake, and Capt. Angus McDonald of Hillsboro River, my Executors, to this my last Will and Testament, and I desire that they shall pay to my beloved son Donald the sum of five pounds, to be raised and levied out of my estate and in like manner raise fifteen pounds which shall be given or granted in Charitable purposes as they shall deem meet, and I further request them to see all debts due or owing by me settled, and I do hereby utterly dis-annul and revoke, all and every other Wills, legacies, bequests or Executors by me in any way before named, ratifying and confirming this and no other, to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the day and year above written.

This will was registered on the 31st March 1848 upon the oath of Alexander McDonald a subscribing witness and probate granted to John McDonald, Ronald McDonald and Angus McDonald the Executors.
