Donald Og MacDonald (1764 - 1861) was son of Donald MacDonald of Lot 14. The paternal grandparents of my wife, Mary Gillis, were Joseph Gillis and Margaret Jane Steele who were both descendants of the same Donald MacDonald. Walter MacDonald's book 'The MacDonalds of Lot 14, PEI and Related Families' gives an excellent genealogy report of the descendants of this Donald MacDonald. Walter is also one of Donald's descendants. There is a copy of his book at the Archives in Charlottetown. These MacDonalds are also discussed in Genealogy Notes From Lots 14 & 16, an article provided to The Island Register by Dorothy Farish. The information in this web page was taken from an old copybook written by Father William Cameron. The copybook was sent to the P.E.I. Museum and Heritage Foundation in Charlottetown by John J. Burns and is available at the Archives in Charlottetown.
Angus MacPhee (1773 - 1853) of Big Pond, Lot 45, was son of John Archibald MacPhee. These MacPhees settled at Big Pond in the early 1800s.

The nearest common ancestor in the above male lines of descent of Augustine (Tracadie), John (Allisary) and Catherine "Og" is Allan 4th of Clanranald. The website of the Clan Donald Society of Edinburgh owned and maintained by Roddy MacDonald lists Ancestor's and Descendants of Allan 4th of Clanranald. Roddy has informed me that the URLs for individuals may change when he updates the site. To access some of these names, it may be necessary to go to his Index of Persons first.
Margaret, mother of Allan MacDonald of Scotchfort of the above Ancestor Tree, and Jane, paternal grandmother of John (Allisary) were sisters of Catherine "Og". Also, there were two brothers, Angus and Rev. James Hugh. The latter was pastor in Arisaig, Antigonish County. Angus had a son, Allan MacDonald, whose son, Hugh, became Judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. The death of Hugh is described in THE DAILY PATRIOT, FRIDAY, MARCH 3, 1899. According to this article, Allan first immigrated to Orwell, P. E. I. and eventually moved to Antigonoish County, married Christine Cameron, and had a large family there. According to the same article, Mrs. Archibald MacRae of Orwell was an aunt of Judge Hugh MacDonald. In THE WEEKLY EXAMINER AND ISLAND ARGUS, FRIDAY, JULY 15, 1881 a Mrs. Archibald McRae, nee Ellen McDonald, of Orwell, native of Arisaig, died 16 June 1881, aged 83 years and 9 months.
Referring to the above ancestor tree, Margaret, wife of Augustine (Tracadie), was sister of Donald(the Lake), father of Mary(the Lake). Margaret and Donald(the Lake) were children of Angus "Officer Angus" MacDonald and Janet MacDonald. Their male line of descent can be traced back by a different path to Somerled through John of Isla and his second wife, Margaret Stewart, daughter of King Robert II. The Clanranalds were descended from John of Isla and his first wife, Amy MacRuari. Roddy MacDonald's website has the ancestry of the father of Officer Angus, Archibald 3 MACDONALD of Achnacoichine.
Waldron and Susan Leard of Kingsboro, P. E. I. have a large file on "Officer Angus" and other MacDonalds.
Donald(the Lake)'s wife, Catherine (Gerinish) belonged to the Morar branch of MacDonalds, and her male line of descent back to Somerled is close to that of Catherine "Og" who is also a member of the Morar branch.
Father Dan MacDonald, in a lecture published in the Charlottetown Herald describes
His numbering system is different from what I am using. He jumps from Allan 2nd Clanranald; to Ronald, 15th Clanranald; Ronald, 16th Clanranald; and John, 17th Clanranald. I have Allan 2nd Clanranald; Ronald, 17th Clanranald; Ronald, 18th Clanranald; and John, 19th Clanranald. Father Dan doesn't discuss the Morar branch of Clanranald, so maybe he omits Ronald 5th Clanranald and Dougald 6th Clanranald. Dougald was assassinated by supporters of Alexander, brother of Ronald 5th Clanranald. Alexander succeeded Dougald as 7th Clanranald. Also, Father Dan's numbering system for the Keppoch's differs from the one used by Roddie MacDonald's website. Roddie MacDonald has Alexander 17 of Keppoch, Ronald Og 18 of Keppoch, Alexander 19 of Keppoch . . . while Father Dan has Ronald Og 17 of Keppoch, Alexander 18 of Keppoch.
The 1883 Christmas Number of The Herald includes an article by father Dan on

These MacEacherns may have been descendants of the MacLeans of Kingearloch. The following excerpts from an unpublished manuscript of Colin S. MacDonald obtained from the Nova Scotia Archives indicates this.
At a time when surnames had more of a fluid nature, this changing over must have been relatively common. Some centuries back, there was a sept of MacLeans in Kingearloch, Morven, known as "Siol Eachunn", Hector being a very popular MacLean name. Some families of this sept for one reason or other took refuge in Moidart, where they were known as MacEachens. In 1790, one of their descendants came out to P.E.I., Canada, in the person of Rev. Angus B. MacEachen, who was a son of Hugh (Ban) MacEachen of Kinlochmoidart, gardener for the laird of that estate. Rev. Angus B. MacEachen ultimately became the first Roman Catholic Bishop of P.E.I., and was highly esteemed by all classes. It is noteworthy that in 1818, when receiving a grant of Government land at "Laugh at the Yankees", at Soldiers Cove, Cape Breton, he requested that the land be named "Kingearloch", and it was so done. Even after the long period that had elapsed since his forbears had come from Morven, he had kept in mind that his true origin was a MacLean one.

The MacEachen MacDonalds
In a paper published some years ago in the "Casket" of Antigonish, I gave some information about people of this name. There are two septs, often confused, and both said to belong to Clan Donald. The MacEacharns are a very old clan sept, and their original habitation so far as is known, was in Kintyre. The name is said to derive from "Ech Thighearna" (horse Lord). The MacEachens of Antigonish and Inverness Counties, Nova Scotia, at least those of the Roman Catholic faith, are said to be descended mostly from Hector(Eachan), second son of Roderick III of Clanranald. There were also other MacEachens descended from some MacLeans of Kingearloch (Siol Eachuinn), who had gone to Moidart a long time ago.
In addition to these, tradition among the very old people living in Knoydart, Scotland in 1851, held that some MacEachens living in Arisaig and Knoydart were descended from Alexander, younger son of Donald, who gave his name to Clan Donald,
